So for this 20 minute session of the game to be worth at least 5-6 minutes of passivity / boredom, it has to contain some immersion, some interesting context, some factions, some story behind, some semi-historical maps setup. If someone wants just pure shooter entertainment without a historical context, he will find better offers on the market.Įspecially AirRB, which inherently includes a significant % of passive gameplay like climbing, positioning, reaching the destination or long running/chase never was and never will be the best choice when it comes to seeking just shooting / destroying entertainment. Looking at the results of the poll in the original post, although of course this is a small sample, the conclusions are opposite.Īlso, while I understand that I'm an oldboy and the new generation of gamers may have different expectations, I doubt the folks joining WarThunder completely ignore the history of WWII and ColdWar as a gameplay context. The situation is that historical and immersion are not (at a guess only) what the majority appear to care about.
Syndrome23's edit wasn't cutting it my take was pretty bad at first Then every nation should be allowed to use a different nation's vehicles by this way of thinking as a way of balance but its just a bad idea henceforth it not occurring in this game Edited Augby SasquatchFox360 Historical matchmaking is stupid anyways, and always will be. I absolutely love the new MM, and I never ever want to return to that old failure of an MM. It's better for newer players and for older players like me, it's nice to never have a predetermined outcome. Honestly, I've had more fun fighting in Ground and Air matches than I ever did before, and I hated Air RB, and I kinda still do because of the TDM mindset people have. Matches have been balanced (more than before anyways), and it's nice to have unpredictability despite the two sides having mostly the same capabilities at times. Every match was predetermined unless something catastrophically uncommon happened, and there was really no fun to be had, because one side had a blatant advantage at all times, before the match begun. It simply sucks and "balance" or "diversity" is just poor excuse. Almost same for British vs German fighters, though they still fight against each other time to time. It's most terrible when you play US or Japanese fighter and want to have some iconic USvsJapan combat, but in 99% of cases you play in one team together. Making teams of random nations is just most simple, lazy approach to the balancing problem. repair costs and earnings (for soft impact on teams structures) limits for bombers and attackers per team (for hard impact on team structures) airfields and objectives placements on maps These tools are still there, they just need to be used more comprehensively: Yes, there were such desperate (minor) voices, but this only means Gaijin gived up using standard balancing tools efficiently to create balance between nations or factions. I do recall a lot of noise over axis stomping at particular BRs was this not a catalyst? You forget they prior to this change people were calling for it. I just muddled the topic as through the title/poll/section I missed the target subject. Again, the call for it I mention was ground not air. And there had been a call for MM unlocking for ground you can't please everyone.Īctually mixed battles on air is poor, but then it beats being overrun every time which I experienced before (low/mid only) which meant I preferred grinding aircraft vvvveeerrryyy slowly in ground (until now). There is far too much that would be needed to be added to the game to make historical truly relevant (vehicles performed due to realistic constraints that are not balanced).Īnyway, the thread is actually only about air in hindsight and only mentions ground in passing, so my comments were only focused on something off topic. Yeah, personally I never came to War Thunder for realism/history. Well, on ground I've given up, as once they removed friendly fire from Ground RB it was clear that any reasonable representation of history is no longer valued by the player base in that mode.
